About Us

Meet Dr. Jill Brickman

Founder & Clinical Psychologist (she/her)

I earned my doctoral degree from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University in 2008. Early in my career, I realized that many families felt lost in the diagnostic maze. After completing my training at Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS), I was proud to stay on board, support individuals and families with developmental disabilities, and eventually help launch their autism diagnostic program and coordinate testing services.

Today, in addition to leading the team at Horizons, I am an adjunct faculty member at Ferkauf where I have the privilege of teaching and supervising the next generation of psychologists. I have also helped launch the Lemle Clinic, the first program in the country focused specifically on Developmental Visual-Spatial Disorders (DVSD/NVLD), a profile that is often overlooked in traditional assessments.

I don’t see my clients as a list of symptoms to be treated, but as whole people. Whether I am working with a young child, a teenager, or an adult, I view our work together as a partnership. My goal is to translate complex neuropsychological data into a map for your life, focusing on your strengths just as much as your support needs.

“I believe that every person deserves to understand how their brain works. My journey into psychology began with a simple goal: to help individuals and families navigate the complexities of learning and development with clarity and compassion.”

Dr. Jill Brickman

I’ve called New York City home for over 20 years. When I’m not in the office, you’ll likely find me biking or walking through Central Park, trying out a new restaurant with friends, or at home working on a challenging puzzle. Raising my own children in the city has given me a deep, firsthand understanding of the unique benefits and only-in-New-York hurdles of family life here. I bring that perspective into every evaluation, knowing that the recommendations we make need to work in the real world- at home, in the classroom, and in our community!

Meet Dr. Maia Buschmann

Clinical Psychologist (she/her)

My work is shaped by a “whole-person” philosophy. In addition to my doctorate in clinical psychology from Rutgers University (GSAPP), I hold a Master of Science in Public Health from Columbia University. This dual training means I don’t just look at symptoms; I look at the social and systemic factors that shape who we are. Whether I am conducting a neuropsychological evaluation or providing evidence-based treatment, my goal is to help you understand your brain within the context of your real, everyday life.

In addition to my work here at Horizons, where I specialize in comprehensive evaluations for teens and adults, I provide evidence-based treatment for OCD and anxiety at The Reeds Center in NYC. Working alongside Dr. Jill Brickman allows me to combine my passion for diagnostic clarity with a deep commitment to neurodiversity-affirming care. I’ve had the privilege of training across diverse clinical settings, which has taught me that every individual’s nuanced profile deserves a tailored, compassionate approach.

“I became a psychologist to support people on their journey of self-understanding: namely, to discover their strengths and to deepen their relationships with others and the world around them. I believe that self-knowledge can change the trajectory of a person’s life. I am honored to be a part of that process.”

Dr. Maia Buschmann

Originally from Vancouver, Canada, I’ve called New York City home for a decade. I’m a firm believer in the power of movement and community to support mental health. When I’m not in the office, you can usually find me dancing, practicing yoga, catching live music with friends, or exploring the ever-changing NYC restaurant scene.
